Biden To Take Bold Action to Curb Gun Violence and Save Lives

New Executive Order coming as early as today.

During his campaign, President Biden pledged to introduce a series of measures aimed at curbing gun violence and preventing mass shootings across the United States. Although a bipartisan gun safety bill was successfully enacted last year with his assistance, he acknowledged the imperative for further action.

"While this bill doesn't do everything I want, it does include actions I've long called for that are going to save lives," Biden said just before signing the bill into law.

It seems that further action is imminent, as reports suggest that the President will soon sign an Executive Order equipping AG Merrick Garland with the necessary resources to crackdown on firearms vendors who violate the law, thereby “moving the US as close to universal background checks as possible,” according to the White House.

President Biden will unveil an Executive Order today and speak at Monterey Park, California, the location of a January 21st mass shooting, which killed 12 and injured 9 Americans. The Order will reportedly clarify the definition of who is “engaged in the business” of selling firearms. Additionally, the Order will allow individuals to petition a court to allow police to confiscate guns from people who are a determined danger to themselves or others.

AG Garland will also reportedly create a list of licensed firearms dealers, who have violated the law, and make that list public in order to shame those companies.

According to the White House, the law that Biden helped push through last year "created an opening" to allow Biden to direct the Attorney General to move the US as close to universal background checks as he can without additional legislation.
