Full Trump Lawsuit Revealed: Trump sues Michael Cohen for $500 million
In a new legal maneuver, the former President of the United States, Donald Trump, has launched a lawsuit against his former attorney and confidant, Michael Cohen. This latest filing follows Trump's recent indictment in Manhattan on charges in which Cohen is a key witness.
Trump's extensive complaint was lodged in the federal court in Miami and accuses Cohen of deliberately seeking attention and personal gain at the expense of the former president through his book, podcast, and numerous media appearances. The lawsuit seeks damages whose precise sum will be determined at trial, although the complaint indicates that the amount is expected to far exceed $500 million.
The full court filing can be viewed below:
“This is an action arising from Defendant’s multiple breaches of fiduciary duty, unjust enrichment, conversion, and breaches of contract by virtue of Defendant’s past service as Plaintiff’s employee and attorney,” the lawsuit reads. “Defendant breached his fiduciary duties owed to Plaintiff by virtue of their attorney-client relationship by both revealing Plaintiff’s confidences, and spreading falsehoods about Plaintiff, likely to be embarrassing or detrimental, and partook in other misconduct in violation of New York Rules of Professional Conduct.”
As Donald Trump faces an impending criminal trial in New York, his legal team has launched this new lawsuit. This move is not entirely unexpected, given Trump's history of using litigation as a weapon against his political and legal foes. However, such tactics have often backfired on the former president in the past.
Some legal experts have raised concerns that this lawsuit could be viewed as a blatant attempt to undermine Cohen's credibility as a witness in Trump's criminal case. Indeed, some have gone so far as to suggest that it amounts to witness intimidation.
It remains to be seen whether this case will ultimately proceed to trial, but it is likely to draw significant attention as it winds its way through the courts. Of course, the larger question is how this lawsuit will fit into the broader legal landscape surrounding Trump, who could face multiple indictments in the coming months.
