Eyewitnesses have reported hearing officers yelling, "Active shooter at the bank!" while gunshots continued to ring out in the background. The bank is located around the 300 block of East Main Street, an area typically bustling with activity during a typical weekday.
As news of the shooting spread, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear took to Twitter to express his concern and offer support. At this time, it is still unclear how many individuals have been impacted by the shooting or what may have led to the incident. However, the Louisville Police Department has responded quickly, establishing a perimeter around the bank and working to evacuate nearby buildings and businesses.
As the situation unfolds, local residents and visitors to the area have been urged to stay away from the scene and to follow instructions from law enforcement officials. For those who live and work in downtown Louisville, this shooting is a stark reminder of the senseless violence that can erupt at any moment.
