Why The Latest Hunter Biden Documents Prove Nothing
Republicans continue to push our theories based off of little information.
Republicans are once again attempting to propagate a conspiracy theory surrounding Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, by leveraging tidbits of information about his business deals, despite having limited knowledge about them. They are focusing on the fact that Hallie Biden, Hunter's girlfriend at the time, received $25,000 from a law firm. However, upon further investigation, it is clear that their claims fall short.
As per the documents reviewed, Hunter Biden, James Biden, and Hallie Biden received a sum of $1,065,000 from a law firm called Robinson Walker, which received around $3 million from a Chinese energy company. It's essential to note that doing business with China is a standard practice for thousands of US companies, and the country is our largest trade partner. Moreover, in international business deals, it is not uncommon for a Chinese business to transfer money to a US law firm before it's passed on to the client.
Additionally, it is legal for Hunter Biden, a lawyer, to work as a consultant for a foreign entity as a private citizen. Furthermore, there is nothing unusual about a man living with his romantic partner for years to have funds transferred to their account, and it is not illegal in any way.
Republicans' efforts appear to be an attempt to confuse their base, rather than investigating any actual wrongdoing.
Below are the documents in question, which were released by the Republican-led House Oversight Committee:
While it is possible that something nefarious is at play, there are undoubtedly more suspicious deals that catch the eye when scrutinizing deals involving Trump, his children, and Jared Kushner. The $1.06 million payment made to Hunter and his family while Joe Biden was a private citizen appears to be a flimsy target for Republicans' baseless accusations
Also it’s relevant to point out that Forbes estimated that President Trump received over $5.4M from Chinese companies WHILE he was serving as the President of the United States.
