I could not agree more with you in that Civil Forfeiture laws being wrongly applied; in an Orwellian manner. A person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. CF laws turn this upside down because peoples assets are frozen or stolen by the government before being tried. THIS IS BS!!!
Your story is a cautionary tale for advocates of government intrusion and power in our lives.
For us we emerged stronger, but for many without the ability to lose their funds and pay for legal counsel, it can be devastating. We were lucky! Thank you!
There aren't any words adequate to justify how I feel for what you and your families had to go through. One of the bright lights in this whole mess is it did give a lot of folks like me the opportunity to learn about you two... which ignited a torch of wisdom/knowledge and got us(me) engaged in helping to change things.
Not to be insensitive, but this ordeal would make a great movie, or even a miniseries. People who don't read also need to know of this unbelievable legal persecution your family endured. I have also been the victim of government sanctioned harassment and it's hard for people (who have not) to believe you're innocent. Imagine the many people this happens to in different ways who have no money or ability to fight it. Somehow we found a way but the damage done is everlasting.
Thanks for providing clarification. I see a lot of people making viscous accusations against you both and wondered what it was all about. I assumed that there was a large amount of distortion in their posts. I never imagined how unwarranted they were. I agree the forfeiture laws are abusive.
As a former Federal Agent I can vouch 100% for the accuracy of the claims of the tactics and hardline positions the Government undertook... The unjust and bullying tactics that he's described and I have witnessed many many times over my 28 year career. Many times the POLICE STRUCTURE IN THIS COUNTRY....be it local, State or Federal...is not interested in JUSTICE. And that I think a lot of people need to realize that. They are merely interested in STATS - ARRESTS, FORFEITURES.....and sadly CONVICTIONS.....IN THAT ORDER!!

I don't know exactly how to describe this but maybe suffice to say for your own peace of mind.... the harder the government comes down on you, usually the less guilty you are or maybe more accurately, the smaller the "fish" you are? Does that make sense? I rarely witnessed or even heard of the government coming down so hard on truly evil and criminal people. It's almost like the law of a opposites.
